Same Sex Couple Going to Prom? What?

Dear Editor,

Regarding the complaints of many same sex couples not being able to attend their school's prom, I am writing this letter to you to clearly state that it is unconstitutional to deny them from attending. I do not believe that homosexuality is right, however, I do believe that everyone is equal in that they have the same rights as everyone else. So, telling a same sex couple that they cannot get a discounted ticket price or worse, that they cannot even GO to prom, is discrimination. Even telling a student that is single that they cannot get a discounted price is discrimination as well.

You are favoring the couples in a way that is far from the Constitution's orders. Every man is equal; the rich man in the mansion being served filet mignon and the homeless man out on the streets searching for food are the same, for they both are equal in the rights that they have thanks to the Constitution.

Thank you,
Javen

Dear Federal Appeals Court and Public High School,

I would like to inform you that you are in violation of this student’s rights. By not allowing him the freedom to wear a "San Diego" message shirt or a "John Edwards for President 08" t-shirt you are taking or prohibiting his right to freedom of speech. His choice of clothing does not seem to be disruptive amongst the educational environment nor does it suggest inappropriate, violent or gang-related activities. It seems to me that there is obviously some type of misunderstanding with the school policy, the law and the Federal Courts favoring. If this student wanted to take it a step higher he most certainly could because they are wrong and he shouldn't be denied his rights. Just because he is in school doesn't mean his rights don't exist, he always has his rights, even during school hours. If I were you I would omit this whole situation by letting him wear the shirts, they aren't harming anyone and if you don't by the time it's all over, you may owe him and his family a lot of money, as well as receive negative publicity for the school. Thank you for your time and try thinking wisely next time.

Thanks,
Javen

Is Flag Burning Constitutional?

Flag burning is protected by the Constitution as a form of 'free speech'.
Unfortunately.
What point does burning a flag do? All you get out of it are worthless ashes that prove nothing.
If there is something you dislike about America, what does burning the flag do for you? Nothing. Except make you look like you hate the country that fought for your right to speak freely, worship freely.
Burning the flag is no better than commiting treason; no better than betraying your own country.
If you don't like something about your country, go make a sign. Start a petition. Protest it on a street corner. THAT is freedom of speech. Burning the flag? Not so much.

It is ridiculous, and for me, makes no sense. Burning a flag doesn't show people that you're protesting against higher taxes.

It doesn't show people that you're a homosexual fighting for your right to attend prom.
It shows people your utmost disrespect and unappreciation for all this country has provided for you.
That is why I believe that the Constitution's protection of the burning of the American flag should be amended and made illegal.

The WBC.

When do you think speech has gone too far? This issue is still debated upon everyday. Some people think we have too much freedom in that area and others seem to think we don't have enough. Westboro Baptist Church is an Independent Baptist church as well as a hate group for homosexual people. They originated in Topeka, Kansas and travel all over the world protesting and picketing homosexuality. Some, like myself, seem to think they have taken freedom of speech a little too far but, according to the law, they have not violated anything. Their methods are very extreme and even offensive. They twist words of the Bible around in order to justify their reasons for hating groups of people. The Bible teaches us to love the sinner and hate the sin, and it further teaches us that he who is without sin, let him cast the first stone. Hate is a very strong word, God is not capable of hating anyone, but He only surrounds us and teaches us about unconditional love. Westboro Baptist Church promotes hate and doesn't mention love at all, in any case.

The fact that their church membership is comprised of about 80 percent family exemplifies a "Jim Jones" brainwashing mentality. Freedom of speech should not include terroristic threats and degrading your own country publicly. Her freedoms should not be allowed to disturb anyone’s right to be put peacefully to rest especially if they gave their life fighting for her freedom, to include freedom of speech. I realize if we as a people were to stand against these ridiculous outbursts, we would be giving her the publicity that she and her followers seek as well as lose some of our own freedoms. So when is does this freedom go too far?
